October 11, 2006

You’ve probably noticed that the posts on this site have slowed down quite a bit! The main reason for that is the fact that I’ve started work. On Sept. 11th Jody and I flew to the Bay Area, me for work, her for support. It was a grueling 3 weeks for me, getting thrown into the fire after 2 months of “vacation.” I probably lost 10 pounds and almost got sick more than once! However, I believe I survived only because Jody was there to support me. And now I’m stronger for it!

We did have some fun on the weekends and were able to visit the city and meet friends. Myles and Kelly were gracious enough to take us out for a day in San Fran and show us the touristy stuff. We have lots of pics, i’ll post them when I have time. On another occasion we also got to see Jimmy and Tyler. We had a BBQ at Jimmy’s apartment in the cold, cold night. It was fun!

The whole time we were there I could not wait to get back home to good old Colorado. It’s funny, this notion of “home.” I thought about it during a ride on the BART (train) into the city. Although I was born and raised in Hawaii, I now call Colorado home all too easily. I suppose a large part of it has to do with the fact that I no longer have an “anchor” there, i.e. parents. I do have lots of family and friends there, and we are close, but it’s just not the same. I think “home” for me is wherever Jody and I are living, so it could be anywhere, and for now it’s Colorado. I’ve grown to really love this place and to really appreciate how big it is up here. Even the sky looks bigger, if you can believe that.

Since I’ve been back I’ve been working from home. It’s been great! I have full connectivity to the office in California, and I don’t have to shave or even change out of my PJs if I don’t want to! However, we’ll be setting up video conferencing soon, so I suppose I’ll have to at least have clothes on for those sessions!

Anyway, I go back to California next week for two weeks. This time it shouldn’t be so bad now that I’m back in the groove. Regardless, I just know the whole time I’ll be counting the days till I return home…
